Zones d’ombre Michel Fourniret France.tv documentary series, Digi Mart USA News (France): “Zones d’ombre, les meurtres non élucidés de Michel Fourniret” is a six-episode documentary event series available on the France.tv platform starting Friday, November 27, 2026. Focusing on crimes committed between 1987 and 2003 and on recently reopened investigations, it examines unresolved cases surrounding the man known as the “Ogre of the Ardennes.”
Nearly forty years after the first offenses, the name of Michel Fourniret continues to haunt French judicial history. Convicted several times for a series of murders of young women and girls, the serial killer died in May 2021 without revealing all he knew.
The series seeks to address that remaining unknown by following investigations reopened in recent years.
Across its six chapters of 35 to 40 minutes each, the program examines the mechanisms that long prevented justice from being served, including the absence of material evidence, partial confessions and fabricated alibis. It also highlights the decisive role of scientific advances and DNA matching, which from 2018 onward allowed cases believed closed to be reopened.
Several cases attributed to the Fourniret couple remained open long after the first convictions. Two investigations were conducted without prosecution, from 1994 to 1998 and from 2004 to 2009, before genetic links reshaped the inquiries.
In this reconstruction, statements by Monique Olivier, Fourniret’s former wife and accomplice, proved decisive, including her contradiction of her husband’s alibi, which advanced the investigation into the disappearance of Estelle Mouzin.
The series also covers the murders of Joanna Parrish and Marie-Angèle Domèce, which were long subject to a dismissal for lack of evidence before late confessions; the 1997 disappearance of Cécile Vallin in Savoie, taken up again at the end of 2022 by the Nanterre unit handling serial or unsolved crimes; and field searches in Orne and Calvados to locate bodies never found.
Following Michel Fourniret’s death in 2021, Monique Olivier remains the principal person implicated in several cases still open. Tried in Nanterre, she assisted investigators in hopes of locating victims whose disappearances have never been resolved.
Produced by AMDA Production with the participation of France Télévisions, the series was written and directed by Lise David and Thierry Fournet, with Vincent Hérissé co-writing, under executive producer Guillaume Blanc. It draws on the work of regional newsrooms of the ICI network.
Available in full on France.tv from November 27, 2026, the series is presented as a documentary investigation focused on the families’ testimony and the facts rather than sensationalism.
