Tunisia overtakes Spain as French Christmas holiday destination, Digi Mart USA News: Tunisia has reinforced its position among the preferred destinations of French tourists. For the Christmas holidays, the North African country has climbed to second place among the destinations most booked through French travel agencies.
Overall, sales of travel agency packages for departures during the Christmas school holidays show a decline of 3.7 percent compared with 2025. According to an observatory conducted by Orchestra for the Entreprises du Voyage, cited on Wednesday, November 4 by L’Écho Touristique, metropolitan France ranks first among the most booked destinations for Christmas, despite a 4.9 percent drop in the number of files.
Tunisia holds second place and is the top foreign destination for this holiday period, with a slight growth of 1.7 percent compared with the same period last year. The country surpasses many well-known tourist destinations, particularly in Europe.
Spain, for example, fell 14 percent year over year.
Morocco, despite a 23.4 percent increase in bookings made by French travelers through travel agencies, ranks fourth. It is followed by Egypt (down 7.7 percent), Finland (up 27.7 percent), the Dominican Republic (down 19.5 percent) and Italy (down 5.3 percent).
In October, Tunisia also made the podium for overall travel agency package sales in France. The ranking was led by metropolitan France, with bookings down 1.3 percent over one year.
Spain came second but fell 23.1 percent, an unprecedented decline since the Covid-19 pandemic, partly attributed to difficulties at the Spanish low-cost airline Volotea, which was forced to cut its France operations sharply.
Tunisia placed third in that ranking of the most agency-booked destinations, with a slight increase of 1.6 percent compared with October 2025. Morocco, despite a 24.5 percent rise over the previous year, took fifth place, behind Egypt, which recorded a 4.2 percent decline year over year.
