SD2MO women’s Coupe de France draw against Clermont Foot Auvergne, Digi Mart USA News (Saint-Dizier, France): The SD2MO (Saint-Dizier/Montier/Marnaval/Ornel) women’s team has drawn Clermont Foot Auvergne in the federal first round of the Coupe de France. The draw took place Wednesday, November 4, in Paris.
Clermont Foot Auvergne are leaders of their Division 3 group, with 13 points from five matches, including a 3-1 win at Troyes. SD2MO avoided the two Division 2 sides, Metz and Evian/Thonon.
SD2MO president Fabrice Douet described the tie as a fine fixture, with a large crowd expected at the Jacquin ground. He noted that Clermont are a division above SD2MO.
This is the second consecutive season the Haute-Marne club has reached the federal round, after reaching it last year with Marnaval.
Douet said he is confident in his players and pointed to their recent progress. SD2MO reached this stage after three rounds, including penalty-shootout qualifications against Grand Nancy, a Division 2 side, and Haguenau, in the Coupe de France rounds on Sunday, November 1.
In the second round, SD2MO equalized in stoppage time against La Vaudoise before progressing.
Douet said the club expects to recover several players, including captain Eden Caye, before the match. He also highlighted goalkeeper Lucie Golfier, who has been strong in penalty shootouts and early in the league season, as well as a solid defense.
The team’s immediate priority remains the Régionale 1 championship, where the side coached by Thomas Bouchard sits seventh and has been unbeaten for almost two months, with four matches without defeat. The match is scheduled for Sunday, November 22, at the Jacquin ground.
A winner would face the winner of Dijon UC (R2F) and Colmar (R1F) in the next round.
