Saint-Étienne to host French Road 10 km Championships, Digi Mart USA News (Saint-Étienne, France): The city of Saint-Étienne, which already organizes the French Elite Athletics Championships in late July 2027, will host another major national athletics championship on its streets in April 2027, according to a publisher article from the city.
For the first time in Saint-Étienne, the French Road 10 km Championships will take place on Sunday, April 11, 2027. Nearly 3,000 runners are expected for the competition, organized by Coquelicot 42 Athlétisme as part of the Festival des Babets.
For the municipality, the event will also be an opportunity to make sport a highlight of city center life, between the Jean-Jaurès and Dorian squares. The Festival des Babets will offer a program open to different audiences throughout the weekend and help animate the heart of the city.
Starting Friday, activities will be offered to schools. On Saturday, several events open to the public will focus on sport, health and addiction prevention.
An orienteering course, co-organized with city center merchants, will also invite participants to explore the streets and discover the shops that sustain them.
On Sunday, two races of 5 km and 20 km will allow amateur runners to take part in the Festival des Babets. They will precede the 10 km French Championships, which will bring together the best French specialists in the distance.
This program is designed to combine high-level competition with mass public participation. Visitors can take part in the races or attend the championship.
Behind the weekend is Coquelicot 42 Athlétisme, a club with more than 600 licensed members, which aims to make this first edition of the French Championships in Saint-Étienne an event that goes beyond competition alone. With the support of the city and the French Athletics Federation, the club will rely on its experience organizing national competitions to offer an open Festival des Babets.
The event is expected to welcome several thousand runners and visitors and give Saint-Étienne additional visibility among audiences from across France.
Régis Juanico, Mayor of Saint-Étienne, said hosting the French Road 10 km Championships for the first time is a great source of satisfaction because the competition benefits the entire city. Ali Rasfi, Deputy Mayor in charge of the active and sporting city, is also credited in the publisher article.
