Charles de Gaulle Memorial special broadcasts from Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, Digi Mart USA News (Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, France): As the anniversary of the death of General Charles de Gaulle on November 9, 1970 approaches, ICI Champagne-Ardenne TV will broadcast a special edition of its ICI 19/20 news program and Dimanche en politique from the Charles de Gaulle Memorial in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises.
The two broadcasts are devoted to the history, memory, and current relevance of de Gaulle’s legacy in a territory closely tied to the life of the former president. Samuel Monod and Maxime Meyer will host guests Nicolas Lacroix, president of the Haute-Marne departmental council and a member of Les Républicains, and Pierre Manenti, historian and chairman of the scientific council of the Charles de Gaulle Memorial.
The broadcasts follow the success of the two-part film La Bataille de Gaulle, which has renewed interest in this major figure of French history, both for his military exploits and his political vision. The programs will tour the memorial in the Haute-Marne region to examine its history and how the site keeps de Gaulle’s trajectory and ideas alive today.
A local issue will also be addressed: the future of La Boisserie, the historic residence of General de Gaulle located near the memorial. The programs will also examine de Gaulle’s political legacy, asking what remains of Gaullism today, including his vision of France and his approach to institutions and sovereignty.
With the 2027 presidential election campaign beginning, the broadcasts will ask what remains of de Gaulle’s legacy amid social mobilizations, economic, budgetary, and political crisis, and whether the “Gaullist method” is still relevant.
