ANC calls for strong voter turnout in 2026 South African local government elections, Digi Mart USA News (South Africa): The African National Congress (ANC) has called on registered voters across South Africa to turn out in large numbers and exercise their democratic right as the country holds its 2026 Local Government Elections today. The party encouraged voters to visit their designated voting stations early, particularly in areas where afternoon showers and thunderstorms are forecast.
The ANC reminded voters that polling stations opened at 07h00 and are scheduled to close at 21h00. The party said the elections present an opportunity to address pressing community concerns, including reliable water and electricity supply, road maintenance, refuse collection and improved municipal services.
Acknowledging shortcomings in service delivery, the ANC said it remained committed to rebuilding public confidence through accountability, integrity and responsive local government. The party also called on its members, branches and volunteers to assist with voter mobilisation while respecting the rights of all citizens to participate freely.
ANC national spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu further urged peaceful participation, respect for electoral officials and rejection of intimidation and misinformation. The statement concluded with an appeal for South Africans to make their voices heard at the ballot box as the country elects its local government representatives.
