French Forecast Signals Mid-November Weather Shift as High-Pressure Block Begins to Weaken

France mid-November weather change forecast blocking high pressure breakdown: Forecast models suggest the anticyclonic block over the British Isles and North Sea may weaken during the week of November 9 to 15, with rain returning first to southeastern France and wetter conditions possible later in the month after a prolonged drought.

France mid-November weather change forecast blocking high pressure breakdown, Digi Mart USA News (France): Clear blue skies and cool air have dominated for weeks, and many people in France have grown used to the dry conditions, which have lasted for nearly six months. However, forecast models are beginning to show a signal of a possible change in the coming days, although the timing and the first regions to see rain remain uncertain.

A pressure map from early November shows unusually high barometric readings over northern France. An anticyclonic block has settled over the British Isles, the North Sea and Scandinavia, preventing Atlantic weather systems from reaching French regions, according to forecasts relayed by Météo-France.

The block is expected to remain strong until the end of the week.

Forecasts indicate pressure anomalies above +20 hPa over the British Isles and southwestern Scandinavia over a 7-day period, with readings often between 1035 and 1040 hPa. Such high pressure is unusual at this time of year, when low-pressure systems would normally dominate.

For the week of November 2 to 8, most of France is expected to remain calm and dry under a cool continental flow. The southeast is the exception, where instability over the Mediterranean may bring rain to the Languedoc and the rest of the southeast, while other areas stay dry.

The models begin to show a change from the week of November 9 to 15, with the European model indicating a notable drop in pressure over the British Isles. The block would then begin to break down, allowing Atlantic low-pressure systems to extend toward the Azores and the Bay of Biscay before reaching Portugal, Spain and France.

The most likely scenario, according to recent projections, is a gradual transition toward more unsettled weather during the coming week rather than an abrupt change. The wind could shift to a south to southwest flow, bringing milder and more humid air along with rain, with the strongest rainfall signal in southeastern France, including the Languedoc, Provence, the Côte d’Azur and Corsica.

These elements remain projections, and a one-week forecast indicates a trend rather than certainty. Some projections suggest the change before November 15 could lead to a more unsettled second half of November, although two-week forecasts remain fragile and a single rain episode would not erase six months of deficit.

Key signs to watch in the coming days include the drop in pressure over the British Isles, the track of low-pressure systems toward the Bay of Biscay, the shift in wind flow toward the southwest and the intensity of rain in the southeast.
