The White House has been without a regular press secretary for months.

Trump offers White House press secretary job to Dana White, Digi Mart USA News (United States): President Donald Trump says he has offered the White House press secretary position to professional wrestling figure Dana White, though it is not clear whether the announcement is serious or whether White would accept the job if it is.

In a message on his social media platform, Trump wrote: “Dana will be a press secretary like no other. Dana, please take the job!” White is president and chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the organization whose event Trump ordered held on the grounds of the White House in June for his birthday.

The White House has gone months without a press secretary. Conservative commentator Katie Zacharia held the post for five days in October before being dismissed abruptly.

In May, press secretary Karoline Leavitt began maternity leave, and no replacement was named. Instead, several members of the Cabinet took turns holding occasional briefings in the White House press room.

Leavitt, 29, briefly returned to the job but announced in August that she was leaving permanently to spend more time with her two children. In his Truth Social post, in which he calls White a “violent fighter and warrior,” Trump says he has also asked that the athlete’s staff be hired, “although some are not from our country.” “We need these people to defend us against the lunatic left,” he states, naming fighters he wants hired, including Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harris.

The statement comes as Trump spends the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, one day after he announced that Stephen Miller, one of his most hardline advisers, would become chief of staff, a role similar to that of a prime minister in European governments. Miller, architect of Trump’s strict immigration policy, which includes mass deportations, replaces Susie Wiles, who has been blamed for the Republican Party’s heavy defeat in the midterm elections held last Tuesday.

Although vote counts are not yet complete in all districts, Democrats are set to win at least 54 of the Senate’s 100 seats and already exceed 250 of the House of Representatives’ 435 seats. Trump initially reacted to news of the Republican setback with indifference but has grown increasingly angry as he has recognized the scale of the defeat.

In an earlier social media message, the president attacked Democratic leaders who anticipate extensive investigations into the rapid enrichment of Trump’s family and government contracts. “This is extortion at the highest level, and they should be held accountable for it,” he wrote.

“They are threatening our donors, who are some of the most respected people in the world, with jail and many other forms of punishment simply because they are Republicans or Republican supporters. This is turning the law into a weapon.” Trump called for prison for legislators who have begun sending letters requesting data for their investigations, and wrote that Republicans “have to act fast and smart!” He added: “By this statement, I order the Department of Justice to examine this criminal act immediately.”
