Niclas Füllkrug Werder Bremen Stuttgart Bundesliga match, Digi Mart USA News: Werder Bremen’s winning run has ended, but the club’s mood is not as negative as the result might suggest. Bremen lost a competitive match for the first time in seven games, falling 1-0 at Stuttgart.
Top striker Niclas Füllkrug, who had nine goals in nine games, went without a goal this time.
Sky expert Lothar Matthäus, 65, was clearly impressed by the Germany international. “When a centre-forward for Werder Bremen has 70 touches in a game, you know where the game has gone, especially in the second half,” Matthäus said.
He added, “I have never heard that number before for a centre-forward.”
Matthäus continued, “These are numbers and statistics, and you know I am not the biggest fan of them. But the way Niclas played in the second half, how he received and controlled the balls, and how he found the better-positioned teammates, that gave me enormous pleasure.
That was modern football.”
Bremen led in most statistics, including shots (24 to 13) and possession (58% to 42%). Füllkrug said of Werder’s performance, “I don’t see it negatively at all today.
As I said, I am proud of where we stand. The statistics you mentioned say something, and we keep going.”
Sky analyst Julia Simic commented, “The momentum shifted a little. I believe that is the reality of Werder Bremen, being able to make a game this close.
With a bit more efficiency at the end, you could at least take a point, perhaps even win.”
An international break now follows. Füllkrug was nominated by national coach Jürgen Klopp for Germany’s Nations League matches.
Speaking to Sky, he said, “Honestly, I am still fully in the head of this game. I’m not thinking about travelling to the national team next week yet, and I don’t have any anticipation for it, because that doesn’t interest me today.”
