Remembrance Sunday parades and services in the UK, Digi Mart USA News (United Kingdom): On Sunday, November 8, thousands of representatives from the Armed Forces, Girlguiding and Scouting movements, and the NHS will march or walk alongside members of the public and special guests to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Ceremonies and concerts are held to remember those who gave their lives for their country during historic and ongoing conflicts. Remembrance Sunday is always marked on the second weekend of November.
Marches and memorial services will take place across the UK, including a large-scale event in central London. The British Royal Family will join the procession along Whitehall in England’s capital, where His Majesty The King and the prime minister will lay wreaths at the Cenotaph.
Remembrance Day falls on November 11, when the UK will observe a two-minute silence at 11am to mark the day World War One ended in 1918. Young people from the Scouting and Girlguiding movements also traditionally take part in events in their local areas.
Scouts have participated in the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in London since 1922. During the First and Second World Wars, older Scouts, leaders and Guides supported the military as messengers, lookouts and stretcher-bearers.
