Roy Keane names Stuart Pearce best captain in football history, Digi Mart USA News: Roy Keane knows a thing or two about being a captain, and he is widely considered one of the best there ever was. Yet he has picked out a Nottingham Forest legend as the most awe-inspiring skipper of all time.
Nottingham Forest have had some excellent footballers and captains, but for Keane, one stands out as perhaps the best ever. Keane was asked on The Overlap’s TikTok channel who the best captain of all time is, and he found the question difficult.
Asked whether he would name himself, which many of the other people interviewed in the video said they would do, Keane replied, “No, don’t be silly.” He added, “It’s the hardest question ever. When I was coming through and as a youngster, learning about the game, Stuart Pearce was a brilliant captain for me.”
Pearce is Forest’s longest-serving captain and a club legend. Keane and Pearce played 114 matches together for Forest.
It says a great deal that Keane is many people’s pick for the greatest captain ever, yet he himself chose Pearce.
The article argues that Forest could use a player with Pearce’s leadership qualities to raise standards and get the team moving. It concludes that Morgan Gibbs-White does a good job as captain but is not cut from the same cloth as Keane or Pearce when it comes to leadership.
