Two cargo ships collide in dense fog on the Maas near Den Bosch, Digi Mart USA News (Den Bosch, Netherlands): Two cargo ships collided this morning in dense fog on the Maas river, not far from Den Bosch in the Netherlands. No reports of injuries have been received, and one of the two vessels was heavily damaged.
The collision occurred around 11:15 a.m., according to Omroep Brabant. A container ship carrying an estimated 90 containers struck the side of a smaller cargo vessel that, according to unconfirmed reports, was transporting dredging sludge.
A dent of roughly one and a half meters was created in the hull of the vessel carrying the sludge. The covers used to secure the cargo were also damaged.
The container ship reportedly sustained considerably less damage.
After the collision, both vessels were able to proceed under their own power to a side branch of the Maas, where they moored. The water police have now launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.
Because the ships are no longer on the main shipping route, maritime traffic is not affected by the incident.
