Brady Oliveira praises Tyson Philpot ahead of CFL Eastern Final, Digi Mart USA News (Montreal): Brady Oliveira complimented the achievements of fellow Canadian and upcoming opponent Tyson Philpot ahead of their matchup in the Eastern Final presented by Wegovy this Saturday.
Philpot captured the Most Outstanding Canadian award for the first time in his career after setting a CFL record of 1,809 receiving yards by a Canadian, along with career highs in catches (124) and touchdowns (13).
Oliveira, a two-time Most Outstanding Canadian, acknowledged the career year Philpot has had and what he has accomplished in 2026. “I’m a huge fan of his game, what he’s done this year, that kid’s special, no other receiver came close to what he was able to do this year,” said Oliveira at a media press conference on Friday afternoon.
“Tyson, that’s my MOP this year, that guy was a stud.”
At the same time, Davis Alexander was named the 2026 George Reed Most Outstanding Player, setting career highs in multiple categories himself.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea described the MOP quarterback and what his team is set to face on Saturday. “Fiery competitor, tries to extend the plays, dishes the ball out, runs their offence,” said O’Shea to reporters.
“Probably the best, one of the best things is he runs their offence very efficiently.”
The Bombers also met the Alouettes in the 2025 playoffs, in the Eastern Semi-Final, a slugfest that saw Montreal come out on top 42-33.
Redha Kramdi, who has played all six years of his career with the Blue Bombers, addressed the challenge he faces against the league’s top offensive players in a rematch. “They’re a great offence, great system, great coaches, and you’ve got the MOP, the MOC, and for me personally, Tyler Snead is the best slot receiver in the CFL,” said Kramdi.
“If we can win a couple of these 50-50 balls and if we can be more effective like we’ve been the whole year on second down, which we weren’t the last time we played them, it’s a different game and they’re gonna get theirs.
“They’re gonna score points, but you want to limit them and you don’t want to self-inflict, you just want to play sound football and make them earn everything.”
The Eastern Final gets underway Saturday afternoon at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
ET and can be watched on TSN, RDS, CTV, Crave and CFL+.
