Joshua Buatsi Floyd Mayweather offer rematch with Willy Hutchinson: The British-Ghanaian boxer explains why he declined a major deal from Mayweather after his 2016 Rio Olympic bronze, as he prepares to face Hutchinson for the WBC light heavyweight title in Manchester.

Joshua Buatsi Floyd Mayweather offer rematch with Willy Hutchinson, Digi Mart USA News (Manchester, UK): Joshua Buatsi opted against signing a major deal with Floyd Mayweather, according to an exclusive interview with Sporf. The British-Ghanaian boxer has built an impressive career, and on Saturday night at the AO Arena in Manchester, he will face Willy Hutchinson in a rematch for the WBC light heavyweight world championship.

In 2016, Buatsi won bronze at the Rio Olympic Games, impressing combat sports fans around the world. His determination and boxing intelligence drew the attention of Mayweather, who reportedly moved quickly to try to sign him.

Despite the lucrative offer, Buatsi chose a different path. In the Sporf interview, he said: "Apparently, Floyd had come down specifically to watch me in the Olympic Games, which I don’t think is all true.

He gave me an offer to come to the States, but to be honest, I’m not really that much of a fan of the States."

Buatsi said London was where he spent most of his time at the time, and he wanted to stay at home, train, and focus around the people he grew up with. He added that he made that decision and stuck with it.

Ten years after his Rio performance, Buatsi is preparing for Hutchinson in the rematch for the green and gold belt. In their first meeting, he dropped his rival twice on the way to a points win.

The 33-year-old said he is excited to repeat that result but is not overlooking his opponent.

Buatsi said: "A lot was said before the fight, during and after the fight, and they don’t link up. Things that were said before didn’t translate to the fight.

I know what to expect from him. We’ve trained like it’s a new opponent.

We haven’t been in camp thinking, ‘We’ve beaten him before, so it’s a walk in the park’. We’ve trained for a better version."
