Borussia Dortmund vs SV Elversberg, Digi Mart USA News: Borussia Dortmund continue their Bundesliga season at home to SV Elversberg on Saturday, revitalized after another Champions League win earlier in the week.
The BVB defeated Real Betis 2-1 at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday, with Fabio Silva and Konstantinos Karetsas on target for coach Niko Kovac’s side. It was their fourth win in their last five games in all competitions, signaling a return to form after a mini slump last month.
Dortmund also remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga after eight games, their best start since the 2021-22 season. Last weekend they held Bayern Munich away from home, with Silva scoring an 89th-minute equalizer to salvage a point.
With another international break coming up, Dortmund’s players will be aiming to head into it on a positive note with another victory. However, that will be far from straightforward against a resilient Elversberg side punching above its weight in its maiden Bundesliga campaign.
Elversberg gained top-flight promotion for the first time in the club’s history this summer and are currently seventh in the league standings with four wins and 13 points. In their last outing, the Saarland side thumped Mainz 4-1 in a dominant attacking display, with Felix Keidel, Francis Onyeka, Maurice Krattenmacher and Cole Campbell all getting on the scoresheet.
Long-term absentees Emre Can (ACL), Giannis Konstantelias (ACL) and Justin Lerma (muscle) are the only unavailable players for Dortmund. Doubts persist over Serhou Guirassy, who went off injured during the Champions League clash with Real Betis.
Kovac has already hinted that Guirassy could miss the match, and even if he is passed fit, he may be rested on the bench with in-form Fabio Silva leading the attack after scoring in consecutive games.
Elversberg are missing Jan Gyamerah, who is out with a hamstring injury, while Luis Seifert is nursing an ankle problem.
Borussia Dortmund’s probable XI: Gregor Kobel; Joane Gadou, Waldemar Anton, Nico Schlotterbeck; Julian Ryerson, Jobe Bellingham, Felix Nmecha, Daniel Svensson; Maximilian Beier, Carney Chukwuemeka; Fabio Silva.
SV Elversberg’s probable XI: Nicolas Kristof; Luca Sirch, Lukas Pinckert, Maximilian Rohr, Lasse Gunther; Felix Keidel, Lukasz Poreba; Lukas Petkov, Francis Onyeka, Maurice Krattenmacher; David Mokwa.
While Elversberg are no pushovers, Borussia Dortmund’s strong run of form means they should be able to see off the promoted side comfortably. The preview predicts a Borussia Dortmund 3-1 win over SV Elversberg.
