UK state pension age rise from December 6, Digi Mart USA News (United Kingdom): Another state pension age rise is coming in December, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed. Under the DWP timetable, the state pension age will rise from 66 to 67, but the change is happening in stages, with different birth cohorts affected month by month.

The next cohort impact, now that November is underway, will take effect from December 6. People born on December 6, 1960 onward face the change.

Instead of receiving their State Pension when they turn 66, this group will have to wait until they are 66 years and a certain number of months old.

The November 6, 1960 to December 5, 1960 cohort will reach state pension age at 66 years and eight months. Those born from December 6, 1960 to January 5, 1961 will wait a month longer, reaching state pension age at 66 years and nine months.

The other three cohorts affected will be impacted in the New Year. Those born between January 6, 1961 and February 5, 1961 will reach state pension age at 66 years and 10 months.

Those born between February 6, 1961 and March 5, 1961 will reach it at 66 years and 11 months.

The final cohort is those born from March 6, 1961 onward, for whom state pension age will be 67 years.

The DWP said: “The Pensions Act 2014 brought the increase in the State Pension age from 66 to 67 forward by eight years. The State Pension age for men and women will now increase to 67 between 2026 and 2028.”

The department also said the government changed how the increase is phased, so that rather than reaching State Pension age on a specific date, people born between April 6, 1960 and March 5, 1961 will reach their State Pension age at 66 years and a specified number of months.

For people born after April 5, 1969 but before April 6, 1977, the State Pension age was already set at 67 under the Pensions Act 2007.
