Carson Daly Saturday Today co-anchor NBC, Digi Mart USA News: Carson Daly is taking on a larger role within NBC News. According to a press release from NBC News on Thursday, Daly will also join “Saturday Today” as a co-anchor, taking on weekend duties while continuing his weekday commitments at the network.
The 53-year-old broadcaster will make his debut this Saturday alongside co-anchor Laura Jarrett, feature anchor Joe Fryer and meteorologist Angie Lassman. He will continue his weekday hosting responsibilities, including his “PopStart” pop culture segment.
“I’m thrilled to add ‘Saturday Today’ to my weekday morning schedule,” Daly said in a statement. He joked that when his children asked if he would still make them pancakes, he told them he would now be making them for his new co-anchors instead.
Daly said he is “equal parts grateful and excited for this opportunity.”
During an appearance on Jenna Bush Hager’s “Morning Boost,” Daly reflected on the significance of the new position. “To have an opportunity to sit next to Laura and learn and get better at my job, to be the best broadcaster I can — again, it’s not something I take lightly,” he said.
He described working six days a week at the network as an “absolute honor.”
Colleagues Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones celebrated the announcement during a broadcast with a toast of Guinness beers, acknowledging Daly’s Irish heritage. Guthrie compared him to “salt and pepper on a meal” because “he makes everything taste better” and makes every segment pop.
Daly joined “Today” in 2013 as host of the Orange Room, serving as a digital liaison between the program and its audience. His broadcasting career includes hosting MTV’s “Total Request Live” from 1998 to 2003 and NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly,” which ran for 18 seasons.
He will continue to host and executive produce “The Voice” alongside his expanded morning show duties.
“Saturday Today” airs Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
ET.
