Svengoolie Young Frankenstein MeTV screening, Digi Mart USA News: Before we begin, we want to take a second for a moment of silence in honor of the passing of another Halloween season. Everyone good?
Great! Thankfully, Svengoolie (aka Rich Koz) and the House of Svengoolie, including Sarah Palmer’s Gwengoolie, Scott Gryder’s IMP (Ignatius Malvolio Prankerstein), and Bill Leff’s 800-year-old vampire Nostalgiaferatoo, are back to keep the creepy vibes flowing.
Kicking off at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m.
CT on MeTV tonight, one hour earlier than usual, Svengoolie is “Puttin’ on the Ritz” with Mel Brooks’ 1974 comedy classic, Young Frankenstein. Directed by Brooks and co-written by Brooks and the film’s star, Gene Wilder, the 20th Century Fox film boasted a cast that included Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Kenneth Mars, and Madeline Kahn, with a notable appearance by Gene Hackman.
The article highlights Brooks’ ability to match the original’s authenticity with finely crafted silliness. As an example, Brooks reached out to use Kenneth Strickfaden’s original lab equipment from the 1931 film Frankenstein.
Svengoolie shared thoughts on tonight’s screening, describing the film’s beloved and familiar cast and its many now-classic comedy bits. He compared it to Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, saying it sits on the same level as that film, if not higher.
The broadcast will include cast and production information, a segment where the Sven Squad creates its own monster, a song, a visit from Tombstone, and more.
Svengoolie noted that the breaks in the movie have been edited so as not to ruin the comedic flow or remove material, so some segments may be shorter than normal.
