Zelenskyy urges US support after midterm election results, Digi Mart USA News: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says the outcome of the US midterm elections offers hope for more support for Ukraine, according to an interview with German broadcaster ZDF. The midterms were widely described as a referendum on President Donald Trump, and his Republican Party suffered heavy losses as Democrats take control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

American presidents hold significant power over foreign policy regardless of the makeup of Congress, but experts believe the result is positive for Ukraine. Zelenskyy appears to agree, saying he is grateful to Republicans but that Democrats are very clear about supporting Ukraine and helping it, including restoring ties between the United States and Europe.

“There is hope that a balance of power will emerge and that we will receive more support,” Zelenskyy told ZDF. He also said he hopes the new balance in Congress will affect Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly if Congress approves strong economic or weapons assistance, as Europe is doing now.

The interview comes after the United States moved closer to Russia during the fall. Trump halted a sweeping sanctions package against Russia to allow diesel deals with Putin, and has criticized Zelenskyy over attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, saying Ukraine should “get a new president.” Several journalists and researchers now conclude that Putin’s window to secure a peace agreement favorable to Russia is narrowing.

Zelenskyy also criticized Elon Musk in the interview. His company SpaceX provides the Starlink internet service used by the Ukrainian military.

“We are grateful to SpaceX for providing us with connectivity. It was a great help at the beginning of the war.

But we must be very clear: we of course do not like his position on this war.”
