Will Ferrell 1994 Saturday Night Live audition reaction, Digi Mart USA News: Will Ferrell’s performances as the kind-hearted Buddy the Elf in “Elf,” race car driver Ricky Bobby in “Talladega Nights,” and newscaster Ron Burgundy in the “Anchorman” films are considered standouts. The publisher reports that the actor has accumulated $180 million during his career.

A portion of Ferrell’s 1994 audition for “Saturday Night Live” recently circulated on social media, and many users criticized the performance. One X user, @MPhoenix66, said the comedy style was “terrible,” while @defsouf described Ferrell as “comically mediocre.”

The widely shared video contains only the final 81 seconds of the original eight-minute audition. The full audition also included Ferrell’s impressions of sports broadcaster Harry Caray and Senator Ted Kennedy, both of which later became recurring characters during his run on the show from 1995 to 2002.

In the clip, Ferrell plays an executive who tells an imaginary secretary he has paperwork to complete. Instead, he plays with a jingling cat toy on the floor, then pretends to put a caller on hold before slapping a fake rat or mouse between his hands.

Several viewers called the sketch awkward and cringey.

The audition drew laughter and applause from the unseen panel, and it reportedly helped earn Ferrell the job. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld praised the cat bit during an episode of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” saying, “This guy just became a star.”

Ferrell himself said during the same episode that he was unsure the bit would land. “I’m rolling around playing with cat toys to dead silence thinking, ‘This is the end,'” he explained.

The full audition, which has 13.5 million views on the “Saturday Night Live” channel, drew more positive responses from some viewers. One commenter, @VinnieMazzaferro, wrote that “if he didn’t get the job, we would all be different people.”
