SASSA December 2026 grant payment dates, Digi Mart USA News (South Africa): Social grant beneficiaries can prepare for the festive season after the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) confirmed that December payments will return to the regular monthly schedule following a once-off adjustment in November for the Local Government Elections.
In a media statement dated 28 October, SASSA confirmed that the payment dates from December 2026 through March 2027 will remain as originally announced. The agency stressed that the November adjustment applied only to that month and should not be interpreted as a permanent change to its payment calendar.
The December payment cycle will begin on Wednesday, December 2, with older persons’ grants. Disability grants will follow the next day, while children’s grants are scheduled for Friday, December 4.
The children’s grant payment day includes the Child Support, Foster Child and Care Dependency Grants, while Grant-in-Aid is paid alongside the qualifying grant.
SASSA said the November changes were introduced after consultations with relevant stakeholders to accommodate operational requirements linked to the elections. Under that temporary arrangement, older persons’ grants were paid on October 30, disability grants on November 2 and children’s grants on November 3.
The December payment cycle will use the grant amounts introduced in April 2026 following the Budget Speech. The Department of Social Development’s published 2026/27 payment schedule also confirms the December dates and the January 2027 payment cycle.
With December payments scheduled for the beginning of the month, beneficiaries will need to plan for the longer interval before the next standard grant cycle.
Alongside the payment confirmation, the agency reiterated its warning to beneficiaries who receive notifications asking them to undergo a grant review. SASSA says reviews form part of its efforts to ensure that social assistance reaches people who continue to meet eligibility requirements and to prevent irregular or fraudulent payments.
Beneficiaries are expected to provide the requested information and supporting documents within the specified period, and failure to respond may result in suspension of grant payments in accordance with applicable legislation and procedures.
SASSA encourages beneficiaries to check their grant status rather than wait for an SMS or other notification. The agency has provided a WhatsApp service through which recipients can check whether their grants are under review by sending a simple “Hi” message to 082 601 0111.
The service also provides access to eLife Certification and social grant application services without necessarily visiting a SASSA office.
The agency also reminded beneficiaries that they are responsible for notifying SASSA when their circumstances change, including updates to marital status, financial circumstances, residential address and cellphone numbers. Keeping these details current is particularly important for people undergoing reviews, as outdated contact information could prevent them from receiving requests for documents or other important notices.
Beneficiaries experiencing delays or difficulties accessing payments are advised to visit their nearest local SASSA office for assistance. The agency has also cautioned against relying on unverified messages or speculation about changes to payment dates.
For December, the confirmed payment cycle remains December 2 to 4, 2026.
