Carmen Kassovitz, Digi Mart USA News: At nearly 25 years old, Carmen Kassovitz is the lead of Campus Drivers, a series adapted from C. S.
Quill’s bestselling new romance book saga and available on Prime Video. Yes, Carmen is the daughter of Mathieu Kassovitz, the actor, screenwriter and director.
Her mother is actress and stage director Julie Mauduech, a former partner of the filmmaker, who directed her in his film Métisse. Carmen’s mother later had a daughter, Raïka, with Serge Hazanavicius, who has also become an actress.
After her parents separated, Carmen lived in Martinique, which she described as a “paradise island” and where her maternal grandmother was born. Thanks to her mother, she did a lot of theater, dance and competitions there, which she told Gala sparked her desire to perform on stage.
She said Martinique gave her a taste for the performing arts.
At 17, she returned to live in Paris. She told Gala the change was abrupt, though she had strongly wanted to move to Paris to begin working.
There she met her agent and started going to auditions, which proved harder than expected, and she experienced rejection. She said she learned to toughen up and move on, adding that she now fears not working more than she did at 17, because the stakes have become real.
Carmen appeared in short films and made her real acting debut in 2020 in the first two seasons of the series Stalk, broadcast on France.tv Slash, where she played Alma. She also made an appearance in the first episode of the first season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, shot in Paris.
On the big screen, she has appeared in L’Été nucléaire, Ma nuit and Tempête.
Carmen has not abandoned her father’s name or adopted a stage name. She told Gala that it would have come out eventually, so it was better to acknowledge it from the start.
Speaking to Le Parisien, she fully embraced her status and its advantages. She said people currently identify her mainly through her father, which she considers normal, and added that being a nepo baby in this industry gives you a head start, saying those who claim otherwise are deceiving themselves.
