SIAPA Revises Guadalajara Water Rotation Schedule for November 2026, Digi Mart USA News (Guadalajara, Mexico): Water rotations in Guadalajara will have new schedules and, in some areas, periods of up to four consecutive days of programmed suspension. The Sistema Intermunicipal de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (SIAPA) modified the supply calendar on Wednesday, November 4, after finding that the previous scheme did not allow enough pressure to recover to deliver water to all neighborhoods on the assigned days.
The changes affect six of the seven zones of the rotation program, which has been in place since October 15 in sectors of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (AMG). The new distribution provides for longer periods of reduced or suspended supply, but also seeks to extend the effective days of recovery.
Ismael Jáuregui Castañeda, director of SIAPA, acknowledged that the short periods of the original calendar favored homes near distribution points, while some more distant or elevated neighborhoods continued to go without water.
The adjustment changes the scheduled days for each zone of the system. Although SIAPA is keeping the rotation scheme, the duration and distribution of the disruptions differ from the initial calendar.
Zone 7 maintains its previous schedule, while the others have been modified. In particular, Zone 5 will have up to four consecutive days of scheduled suspension, while Zone 4 will also concentrate four straight days, covering the period from Saturday to Tuesday.
Authorities explained that these restrictions may affect each household differently, ranging from reduced pressure to a complete lack of supply, depending on location and network conditions. The main problem lies in the time water needs to return to homes after each rotation period.
Jáuregui explained that when service is restored, pipes must first fill and the necessary pressure must recover to reach cisterns and, at certain points, rooftop tanks. “When we open a tap in a zone that was in rotation, the water does not arrive instantly,” the SIAPA director said.
During the presentation of the new calendar, the official acknowledged that the first scheme produced an uneven distribution: water reached neighborhoods close to the aqueducts but did not reach more distant or higher sectors. The agency therefore decided to extend both supply and suspension periods, with the aim of making recovery effective during the assigned days.
SIAPA also reported that 53 neighborhoods still experience total outages, equivalent to approximately 8.5% of the 627 neighborhoods included in the program. Areas cited by authorities as having the greatest supply difficulties include Ciudad Granja and El Fortín in Zapopan; El Vado and Pedregal de Santa Marta in Tonalá; as well as Alfredo Barba and sectors near Cerro del Cuatro.
To avoid confusion with the previous calendar, SIAPA asked residents to review again the zone that corresponds to their address. The lookup can be done on the agency’s official portal, where users can search by neighborhood, municipality or postal code, identify their supply zone and review the corresponding schedule.
The agency will also post notices on its institutional social media accounts up to 72 hours in advance so families can organize their activities and store water.
SIAPA stated that if a home lacks supply during the scheduled periods, alternative supply will be provided by tanker trucks (pipas). Requests can be made through the channels the agency has published.
The Government of Jalisco said it will continue monitoring network performance and recovery times by zone while work proceeds to improve the quality and availability of water in the metropolitan area.
