Sheinbaum says Mexico will respect US midterm election results, Digi Mart USA News: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico will respect the outcome of the U.S. midterm elections and avoided expressing any preference for which party wins a majority in Congress.
“We are going to wait for the result and we are going to respect whatever the result of the election is. So we continue on our path,” she said.
On Tuesday, November 3, millions of Americans are taking part in the 2026 midterm elections, known as the midterms, in which all 435 House of Representatives seats, 35 Senate seats and governorships in 36 states will be renewed, along with various local offices.
The election is a political test for President Donald Trump, as the results will determine whether the Republican Party keeps control of both legislative chambers or whether Democrats regain seats and limit the president’s room to maneuver during the final two years of his administration.
Republicans currently hold majorities in the Senate and the House of Representatives, so the new composition of Congress will be decisive for the advancement of presidential initiatives and the White House legislative agenda.
Sheinbaum insisted that it is not the place of the Mexican government to intervene in the U.S. electoral process.
“It is not for us to comment today. We are going to wait for the result and we are going to respect whatever the result of the election is,” she reiterated.
The president added that Mexico will maintain its own agenda and continue working with the United States, regardless of which party wins the majority.
