Ajaccio volleyball loses to Narbonne in Coupe de France, Digi Mart USA News (Ajaccio, Corsica, France): Last night’s Coupe de France cup match left little lasting memory at the Palatinu, a venue that never looked lively and never got going because of the wide gap in level between the two teams.
Narbonne arrived at full strength to work on its cohesion and taste victory, while Ajaccio, the GFCA side, did what it could with the resources available to it at the start of the season.
The first set set the tone early. Narbonne quickly pulled away, leading 4-9, 12-15 and 15-18 against an Ajaccio side that produced flashes, notably Capet with five points, keeping hope alive of reaching the money time.
Two blocks by Talon brought Ajaccio level at 20-20 and 21-21, a small achievement in a set where a faulty serve, with six errors, made the task far easier for the opponent. Two consecutive points from Italian receiver-attacker Held then allowed Narbonne to restore its advantage, before a final Ajaccio service error gave the visitors a first set point.
The central Maron then closed out a point with a block, preferred to Touré, as the match moved on.
