Mexico remittances September 2026 Banxico stablecoins Bitso, Digi Mart USA News: Remittances to Mexico grew only 1.6% in September, totaling $5.362 billion, the lowest monthly amount in five months, according to the Banco de México (Banxico). Fewer transfers are arriving, but each one is larger in amount.

At the same time, the Mexican exchange Bitso says it already processes about 15% of the value of remittances sent from the United States to Mexico using stablecoins. The publisher explains what the figures mean for people who receive or send money.

According to Banxico data published November 3 and cited by El Financiero and Diario de Tabasco, nearly all remittances arrive by electronic transfer: 99.2% of the total so far this year, about $46.773 billion. Of that amount, 53.6% was deposited into accounts and 46.4% was collected in cash, according to Diario de Tabasco.

Gabriela Siller of Grupo Financiero Base attributed the weakness to U.S. immigration policy and does not expect a significant long-term rebound, according to El Financiero.

Janneth Quiroz of Monex said remittances will not grow by double digits for the rest of the year.

The same outlet cites an analysis by CEMLA showing that employment of Mexican immigrant workers in the United States continued to fall during the first nine months of 2026, with annual declines of roughly 278,000 jobs in construction and 107,000 in food services, recreation and lodging.

On November 4, Bitso announced that its business unit, Bitso Business, processes about 15% of the value of remittances from the United States to Mexico, according to a press release on PR Newswire. The company says the model works as follows: money is converted into a stablecoin, a token pegged 1:1 to the U.S.

dollar, crosses the border via blockchain, and is converted into Mexican pesos, at any hour, including weekends.

If that 15% applied to September’s inflows, it would be about $800 million for the month, an illustrative calculation by Criptoinforme. This should be treated with caution: Bitso discusses only remittances from the United States, does not publish monthly figures, and its figure has no independent verification.

Banxico does not break down how much of the electronic transfers use stablecoins behind the scenes.
