The event is expected to draw thousands of participants from more than 95 countries.
According to Christian Fontana, the delegation’s coach, the five swimmers earned their places at the world championship through different qualifying events. Two of them qualified in Peru in March, while the other three secured their participation in Cozumel in August.
The Metepec team will compete in two formats. Three swimmers will take part in the two-kilometer race, and two will face the five-kilometer course.
The delegation’s main goal is to reach the top 10 positions in each category and branch, a target that reflects months of preparation, discipline and effort.
Among the participants is Laura Meneses, who said she is proud to represent Metepec and Mexico in an international competition. She said her participation is also an opportunity to motivate others to trust their abilities and pursue their goals.
Meneses said she has been swimming since she was six years old and that her first open water experience took place in Acapulco. For her, overcoming fears and maintaining self-confidence have been fundamental to her sporting career.
With their participation in the Dominican Republic, the five swimmers aim to demonstrate the level of swimming in the State of Mexico and bring recognition to Metepec at one of the most important international open water competitions.
