Mexico minimum wage increase process, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): The increase to Mexico’s minimum wage is set each year through a process involving representatives of workers, employers and the federal government, coordinated by the National Commission of Minimum Wages (Conasami).

The legislation establishes that the adjustment cannot fall below inflation and must take into account whether income allows workers and their families to cover basic needs.

The procedure begins in November, when unions and employer organizations submit their proposals. In December, the Council of Representatives reviews economic information and agrees on the new amounts, which must be published in the Official Diary of the Federation before the end of the year to take effect on January 1.

To calculate the increase, the current wage is used as a reference, the Independent Recovery Amount (MIR), intended to improve purchasing power, is added, and a percentage increase agreed by the Council is applied.

In 2026, the general minimum wage is 315.04 pesos per day, equivalent to 9,582.47 pesos per month. In the Free Zone of the Northern Border, it is 440.87 pesos per day, or 13,409.80 pesos per month.

For 2027, a possible increase of between 10% and 13% has been mentioned, although the final figure will depend on negotiations within Conasami.
