Guadalupe Taddei INE audit by Mexico’s Auditoría Superior de la Federación, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): The Government of Mexico has identified the Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF) as the body responsible for reviewing the management of Guadalupe Taddei at the head of the National Electoral Institute (INE), following allegations of irregularities during her administration.
During the morning press conference on Tuesday, November 3, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the ASF is already analyzing the management of the former council president. She said the agency will determine whether there are grounds to take legal action against Taddei and other officials in her administration.
Sheinbaum stated that if possible irregularities with criminal implications are found, the competent authorities will determine next steps and, where appropriate, file complaints with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). “Whoever has committed acts of corruption must be sanctioned,” she said when referring to the investigations and the need to clarify the handling of public resources.
The president said it is not the federal government’s role to decide in advance whether Guadalupe Taddei should face criminal proceedings. She said the results of the Auditoría Superior de la Federación review must first be known.
Sheinbaum also addressed what she described as a concentration of powers at the INE. According to her interpretation, this occurred after the 2014 electoral reform, when Lorenzo Córdova led the then National Electoral Institute.
