Raphaël Glucksmann at Paris labor demonstration, Digi Mart USA News (Paris, France): Raphaël Glucksmann, the Social Democrat candidate in the presidential election, joined the Paris procession on Thursday, November 5, during a nationwide social mobilization. He was greeted with chants of “No, Glucksmann is not a comrade” and “Everyone hates the PS,” as well as cries of “Raphaël president” and some applause.
“If there are political activists who are hostile to our presence, I don’t care, I couldn’t care less,” Glucksmann told reporters. He won the Social Democrat primary, but since the start of his campaign he has struggled to attend demonstrations, where he is regularly confronted by militants from the radical left, and he has denounced what he calls “harassment” by La France insoumise.
“Today is the workers’ day. It is not the day of political activists who back another candidate and seek to prevent us from speaking,” he added, flanked by several Socialist Party officials.
He said his role was to support the intersyndicale and the demands of workers who can no longer make ends meet, including calls for a decent wage and an increase in the minimum wage (Smic).
“I want there to be work in France that allows people to live with dignity. That is the heart of the project,” he said.
He described his aim as a democratic, realistic rupture that does not divide the country, promising to reconcile the French, repair public services and redistribute wealth in the opposite direction from the past decade.
