Météo-France orange and yellow flood alerts for Corsica and Mediterranean departments, Digi Mart USA News (France): A new Mediterranean weather episode is set to reach France, following an earlier episode in October 2026 that affected several departments in the southeast of the country. Météo-France announced on Wednesday, November 4, that the new episode is expected on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Such episodes typically bring very intense rainfall lasting between one and 24 hours, and sometimes up to several days, to departments around the Mediterranean coast. Météo-France placed the two Corsican departments under orange alert for rain and flooding because a prolonged rain episode is forming over eastern Corsica overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
Storms have appeared along the Corsican coast and, although isolated for now, are expected to intensify early in the night. Rainfall totals are expected to become significant by the end of the night, with hourly intensities forecast to reach around 20 to 30 mm per hour.
Over the full duration of the episode, accumulations could reach up to 200 mm and exceed 300 mm over high terrain.
Corsica is also under a yellow alert for storms and flash floods. The Mediterranean episode may affect the coast from Hérault to Var, with intensities expected to strengthen Wednesday evening and continue throughout Thursday.
Five departments have been placed under yellow alert: Alpes-Maritimes, Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, Gard and Hérault. All are affected by rain and flooding, though only Alpes-Maritimes is not expected to see storms, while Gard and Hérault could also face flash floods.
The alert level could be raised as the episode develops.
According to La Chaîne Météo, the last rains are expected to fall during the first part of Friday before moving toward Italy, which would allow the alert to be lifted.
