Les Disparus des Argonnes on France 2, Digi Mart USA News: Les Disparus des Argonnes arrives on France 2 on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 9:10 p.m., bringing renewed attention to Julie Peyr’s novel of the same name, first published in 2022 by Éditions des Équateurs. Beyond the disappearances of young conscripts, the book examines how unequal families fare when dealing with institutions.

The series is adapted by Safy Nebbou and stars Alix Poisson. Julie Peyr, a writer and screenwriter who has worked with Arnaud Desplechin on Jimmy P., Trois souvenirs de ma jeunesse and Les Fantômes d’Ismaël, is the author of the source novel.

The book predates the series by several years. A new edition presented by Les Équateurs is announced for November 19, 2026, and should not be confused with its first publication.

The novel begins on February 13, 1981. On a night of leave, Gilles Veyrades disappears along a national road in the Argonne region.

The army considers him a deserter, while the police refuse to investigate. His mother does not believe he left voluntarily: her son is due to complete his military service in three months, and his fiancée is expecting their child.

Soon, another ordeal is added to the waiting: not being heard. A few months later, another young man disappears, and the family drama takes on a broader dimension.

The publisher’s presentation explicitly combines suspense with social fiction. At the heart of the story is a question: would the disappearance have provoked the same indifference if Gilles had been the son of a minister rather than a worker?

This modest background gives the family’s fight its meaning. Relatives must face the absence, as well as the humiliation of seeing their concern dismissed.

The narrative thus questions the value given to a person’s word depending on their place in society.

The novel is inspired by the real Mourmelon missing persons case. Jocelyne concentrates the experience of families confronted with the disappearance of a son.

In official production notes, France Télévisions highlights this transformation of documentary material. The aim is to embody waiting and tenacity through an ordinary woman, Jocelyne, played by Alix Poisson.

Producers François Lardenois and Nathan Franck of Studio14 Films emphasize the struggle of citizens who have been little heard and the silences of the military institution. Julie Peyr co-writes with Safy Nebbou and Mary Arnaud.

Cast: Alix Poisson plays Jocelyne, Vincent Deniard plays her husband Fernand, Anne Charrier plays Dominique, the suspect’s sister, and Félix Moati plays Janson.

Viewing: The four 52-minute episodes have been available on france.tv since October 30, 2026. France 2 broadcasts them on Wednesdays, November 4 and 11, starting at 9:10 p.m.
