French fuel price cuts at service stations after strategic reserve release: Following a government decision to release strategic fuel reserves, several French service stations lowered diesel prices on November 2, 2026. Drivers welcomed the relief but many said the reduction was smaller than they had hoped, and the temporary cut is expected to last until the end of January.

French fuel price cuts at service stations after strategic reserve release, Digi Mart USA News (Aisne, France): Following a government decision to release strategic fuel reserves, French service stations began a slight reduction in fuel prices on Monday, November 2, 2026, to ease the burden on drivers. Most motorists, however, had hoped for a larger reduction.

On October 12, the government announced that distributors would be able to access these strategic stocks, which were purchased before the war in the Middle East and sold at 0.28 euros per liter, compared with about 1.10 euros per liter on the market in mid-October, according to Matignon. The stocks were released into service stations the day before the price changes.

After TotalEnergies, E. Leclerc announced a reduction of 21 cents per liter for diesel across its 742 service stations, and other distributors followed suit.

At a station in Chauny in the Aisne department, diesel fell by 20 cents per liter, giving the chain one of the lowest prices in the department apart from Total stations.

Consumers interviewed by France 3 Régions welcomed the cut, even though it is temporary. One driver said he had used a fuel-price app and found the station to be the cheapest nearby.

Another praised a local Intermarché station, while a third complained that the reduction was too small and said the price could have been brought down to two euros for diesel.

In Saint-Quentin, a 23-cent reduction was applied to fuel at a Leclerc station in Harly. Store officials said the lower prices took effect with the purchase of new fuel deliveries, which were arriving that Monday.

Customer turnout was not yet high at the time of reporting.

The reduction is the first drop at the pump since March, arriving a few weeks before the year-end holidays. The government has warned that the relief will be short-lived, as the released strategic reserves are expected to supply the market only until the end of January.
