CFTC President Cyril Chabanier on social conference and wage demands after mass French protests, Digi Mart USA News (France): Following massive demonstrations on Thursday, November 5, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu invited trade unions to a social conference on purchasing power and wages. CFTC president Cyril Chabanier will attend the event.
Speaking to France Info on November 6, Chabanier outlined what the CFTC expects from the conference. He said it amounts to the government’s last chance and called for concrete responses on measures within the executive’s power.
Those measures include an early increase in the minimum wage (SMIC) above inflation, unfreezing the civil service index point, and changing the logic of employer social contribution exemptions. Chabanier said all unions counted more than one million people mobilized on Thursday and added that they must be heard.
The article also notes that editorialist Christophe Barbier paid tribute to Chabanier and the CFTC’s approach to unionism on RCF on November 5, as social mobilization continues.
