Anthropic Claude personal finance bank account beta, Digi Mart USA News: Anthropic is allowing Claude to connect to bank accounts so it can analyze spending and answer budget questions. The feature is in beta and is available only in the United States for paid plans.
The company says it sets limits on the data the assistant can access and states that it does not use these conversations for AI training.
Anthropic has not provided additional details on availability in France. According to the publication, European access faces regulatory hurdles, including the need to obtain status as an account information service provider, a process that can take time and require significant effort.
Complex technical challenges in French bank connections and uncertainty about compliance with the GDPR, particularly if the AI accesses sensitive transaction data, also remain.
The new personal finance section lets users connect their accounts and cards to query the AI. Claude reviews transactions and offers advice based on the user’s situation.
However, the agent cannot move, manage or invest money. On request, it totals aggregated expenses and sorts them by category, answers follow-up questions, and analyzes previous months, including flagging subscription renewals.
In one example Anthropic cites, 10 days remain before payday. The tool calculates total spending of $4,309.37, more than half of it for rent and charges, and $1,024.51 for food and beverages.
It anticipates four upcoming debits from the checking account before salary and estimates that $1,393.22 will remain.
Anthropic says connected accounts expose the bank name, account title and category, the last four digits of the account number, available balances, credit limits, and transaction history covering up to two years. Only users of the Pro, Max and Ultra plans can access the beta.
Panoply welcomed the ability to read accounts and help users understand their budgets, calling it a democratization of AI assistance. The startup stressed, however, that explanation does not replace action, since Claude cannot move money.
It argues for an AI operating system dedicated to finance rather than a general-purpose model, and says it is working on a solution that includes payment initiation to act directly on accounts.
