Met Office yellow fog warning South West England, Digi Mart USA News (South West England): A yellow fog warning has been issued by the Met Office for Sunday across parts of the South West. The warning will be in effect from midnight and will run through until around 10am on Sunday morning.
The forecast predicts thick fog to “significantly reduce visibility” in the area and covers Bristol, Somerset and Gloucestershire.
A Met Office forecast said: “Patchy, dense fog is expected to develop during Saturday night with the visibility falling to less than 50 metres in places. Fog is expected to become increasingly widespread within this area during the second half of the night before only slowly clearing during Sunday morning; slowest across parts of the West Country and central southern England.”
The Met Office is warning that this could lead to slower journey times, with delays to bus and train services a possibility. There is also a chance of delays or cancellations to flights.
It is advising anyone due to travel to check road conditions if driving, leave extra journey time, or amend plans if necessary.
The weather service adds: “Make sure you know how to switch on your fog lights, and check they are working before setting off on your journey. Check for updates from your travel company and follow their advice.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
Areas in the South West of England predicted to be affected by the yellow weather warning include Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole, Bristol, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, and Wiltshire.
The Met Office weather forecast for Sunday says: “Fog can be slow to clear in the south, but when it does, sunny skies develop for most. Some coastal showers in Wales and the northwest.
Chilly despite light winds.”
The South West will see “a pleasant autumnal day with long spells of sunshine, after morning fog lifts. Still rather chilly, especially as a brisk coastal breeze arrives in the afternoon.
Maximum temperature 10C.”
