Willi Orban 400th RB Leipzig appearance, Digi Mart USA News: RB Leipzig has undergone several changes this summer, including a new coach, new players and a new season. Under Martin Demichelis, the campaign has felt like a rollercoaster, but the team has stabilized recently.
After a heavy 1:6 defeat to Bayern Munich and a 1:4 loss at Real Madrid, Leipzig delivered a strong second-half performance in a 4:0 win over promoted Elversberg. The club also won 2:1 in the cup at Essen and 2:0 against Schalke 04.
In the Champions League, however, they lost 2:3 at home to Manchester City before beating Augsburg 5:2.
On November 7, Willi Orban celebrated his 400th RB Leipzig match with the fans after the 5:2 win over Augsburg, in which he had made a serious error that gave Augsburg a 1:0 lead after 30 seconds. “This is very emotional for me, an incredibly high number,” said the Hungarian.
“I will never forget how you welcomed me in 2015. That was very special for me.
I have always given 100 percent and will of course continue to do so.”
Orban also commented on the current season. “We have done many things right, but there is still room for development.
We are on the right track, and the boys have an incredible mentality. With your support, we can definitely reach our goals.”
Orban is set to play his 400th game for Leipzig against Augsburg on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CET on Sky.
The defender celebrated his 34th birthday earlier this week.
Leipzig’s Bundesliga fixtures through January have also been confirmed. The highlight of the year is expected to be the Saturday evening clash against Borussia Dortmund on December 19 at 6:30 p.m.
In the cup, Leipzig face Bayer Leverkusen away on December 2 at 6 p.m. at the BayArena.
Brajan Gruda has also been named in the German national team squad for the first time since withdrawing with an injury in September. Coach Julian Nagelsmann praised him as a creative street-style player with untapped potential.
