C.J. Carr vs. Darian Mensah Notre Dame-Miami matchup, Digi Mart USA News: Sitting at 2-6, the New York Jets’ season is hanging on by a thread, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting any better. On Sunday, they travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs, and then the following week they will play host to the Buffalo Bills.
There’s a real possibility of this team dropping five games in a row and ending up at 2-8. With three first-round picks, all of which currently reside in the top 10, the focus is already beginning to shift to the offseason.
Some fans have been following the college football season from the start, scouting players the Jets may look to take in the 2027 NFL Draft. If you haven’t done that yet, this week is an ideal time to begin.
This Saturday, No. 1 Miami takes on No. 11 Notre Dame, and both quarterbacks in the game are very likely first-round selections. Miami’s Darian Mensah has his team off to an undefeated 8-0 start, while C.J.
Carr and Notre Dame are 7-1, with their lone loss coming to BYU two weeks ago.
Mensah, who played quarterback for Duke last season, has had a stellar first year in Miami. He has an impressive completion percentage of 80.7%, 2,425 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and just one interception.
He is averaging over 300 yards a game and has drawn first-round pick conversations.
As everyone is aware, there is more to drafting a quarterback than looking at numbers. Mensah’s best traits are his accuracy and anticipation.
He is not the biggest player, listed at six-foot-three and 205 pounds, but his processing and accuracy stand out when watching him.
As for Carr, he has completed 66.7 percent of his passes, with 18 touchdowns and just one interception this year. This is Carr’s second season as the Fighting Irish’s quarterback, and he has shown promising signs of progress in year two.
Carr is similar in stature to Mensah, listed at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds. His best attributes are his timing and rhythm as a passer, and he does a good job of protecting the football.
Honestly, Carr and Mensah are similar prospects. They are slightly undersized pocket passers, and neither arm pops off the page.
If you prefer a quarterback with all the traits, you may be more of a Drew Mestemaker fan.
Carr and Mensah could be labeled as “boring” or “safe,” but there is arguably a higher floor with that kind of prospect.
This is a good test for both players. A major knock on Carr and Mensah is the level of competition Notre Dame and Miami have faced so far.
Miami has steamrolled most of its opponents, and it will be without its best receiver, Malachi Toney, for this game. Can Mensah rise to the occasion against a tougher opponent without his top target?
As for Carr, he did not play well against BYU in Notre Dame’s lone loss this year. He has to prove he can handle steeper competition, too.
The Jets are very likely to draft a quarterback in April, and over the next few months, fans will hear these two names often. With them going head-to-head this week, it is the perfect opportunity for Jets fans to familiarize themselves with these players.
