Krakow shooting on public square, Digi Mart USA News (Krakow, Poland): Polish emergency services are carrying out a major operation after shots were fired on a square in Krakow.
According to the Polish newspaper Gazeta Krakowska, at least one person has been shot. Videos circulating on social media, seen by the Norwegian newspaper VG, show several people lying on the ground receiving first aid.
A webcam at the scene shows that an air ambulance has landed on the square.
Hanne Stangeland Øen, a Norwegian woman on a long weekend in Krakow, was near the shooting. She told VG by phone from Poland that she and her companions had been sitting outside where it happened and had been drinking when they heard what they thought were fireworks.
They then realized it was gunfire and went up to their apartment on the third floor.
Øen said people ran into restaurants and cafés and hid there. She described the experience as deeply unsettling and said her thoughts were with those who had been on the streets at the time.
Øen said her street is now blocked off by large numbers of fire trucks, ambulances and emergency personnel, with blue lights throughout the area. She reported that disposable gloves and what she assumed was blood and a stretcher were visible on the ground.
Norwegian Jone Dale was also in Krakow to celebrate his daughter’s 30th birthday. He told VG that his group was sitting at a café when they heard several shots fired 50 to 100 meters away.
They then ran inside.
