Oaxaca tourism and economic growth after Day of the Dead festivities, Digi Mart USA News (Oaxaca, Mexico): Recent Day of the Dead festivities in Oaxaca reportedly generated an economic impact of 444 million pesos and attracted more than 100,000 tourists and visitors to the city of Oaxaca, according to data from the state Secretariat of Tourism. Average hotel occupancy reached 73 percent.
Senator Antonino Morales Toledo said the success is the result of a government that has built the foundations of well-being. He cited security as the basis of prosperity, stating that Oaxaca is now the fifth safest state in the country, which he said builds confidence for visitors, investors and residents.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), Oaxaca recorded an average annual growth rate of 4.2 percent in its Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity between the third quarter of 2021 and the second quarter of 2026, ranking second nationally. Construction grew 15.5 percent, driven mainly by works on the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
The senator said this performance placed Oaxaca ahead of states with a greater industrial presence, including Nuevo León, Jalisco and the State of Mexico. He described the state as a driver of the south-southeast region and a key component of the Plan México led by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Morales Toledo attributed the model to Governor Salomón Jara Cruz, arguing that it guarantees governability, legal certainty and incentives to attract investment, positioning Oaxaca as a development hub for the next 50 years. He concluded that peace leads to development, well-being and shared prosperity.
