Haut-Rhin refusal to comply: driver flees at 100 km/h without a license, Digi Mart USA News (Haut-Rhin, France): Shortly before 11 p.m., a traffic stop in the Haut-Rhin department quickly turned dangerous, according to a report by L’Alsace. A gendarmerie crew narrowly avoided a collision with a car whose driver had seriously endangered the officers.
Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated, refusing to comply with the order to halt. He reportedly reached 100 km/h within a built-up area while the officers were behind him, turning a routine check into a dangerous chase.
The pursuit ended in a dead-end street. Trapped, the young man abandoned his vehicle and tried to escape on foot, but the gendarmes found a bag at the scene that would complicate his case considerably.
Investigators linked the bag to the 19-year-old driver. Checks also revealed that he was driving without a license and was in possession of cannabis, adding further charges to his file.
Despite this evidence, the defendant denied being the one who fled from police, both during questioning and before the court. He claimed he had left his car keys on a wheel and that an unknown person had taken the vehicle.
The prosecutor described this defense as not credible in light of the evidence gathered.
On Monday, November 2, 2026, the Mulhouse criminal court found him guilty of refusing to comply and sentenced him to one year in prison, suspended with a two-year probation period.
The case brought together several poor decisions in a single evening: driving without a license, fleeing gendarmes at high speed, and then denying presence at the wheel. In this case, the flight was not enough to avoid consequences, and the bag played a major role in the investigation.
