Klang flood preparedness high tide, Digi Mart USA News (Klang, Selangor, Malaysia): The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has strengthened its flood preparedness in eight flood-prone zones to face a high tide phenomenon expected from November 7 to 11.

Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the measures include ensuring effective drainage networks, installing flap gates and increasing monitoring in flood-risk areas. He said all relevant departments must remain on standby and ensure every complaint received is addressed and appropriate action taken, especially during uncertain weather conditions.

Residents living in low-lying areas, near rivers or in flood-risk locations were advised to make early preparations for possible water overflow. According to Abd Hamid, a floods coordination meeting with Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim had previously identified eight locations requiring special attention.

The identified areas are the Bukit Raja Intersection, Taman Mutiara Bukit Raja, Taman Melawis, Kampung Bukit Kapar, Taman Meru Indah, Taman Seri Kerayong, Taman Daya Maju and Jalan Haji Salleh, Meru. Actions under way include upgrading the drainage network, repairing discharge pipes, maintaining on-site detention ponds and ensuring developers comply with drainage and erosion control plans.

The MBDK Skuad Pantas (Quick Response Team) received 83 disaster complaints on November 4 and 5, with 62 cases completed, 16 still being handled and five involving special assistance. The complaints covered fallen trees, flash floods, roofs blown off by wind, fallen utility poles and landslides.

The team will continue working with MBDK’s Engineering, Landscape and Environmental Services departments to strengthen preparedness.

Residents were advised to monitor weather developments and official announcements, store important documents and valuables safely, move vehicles to higher ground, avoid risky locations and prepare emergency supplies. Abd Hamid said owners whose vehicles or property were damaged by fallen trees under MBDK supervision may claim compensation, but must first file a police report before submitting a claim with relevant documents to MBDK for review.

Residents were also asked to report emergencies through official channels, and the Skuad Pantas can be contacted at 03-3370 1095.
