Young voters shift toward Democrats in 2026 midterm elections, Digi Mart USA News (Austin, Texas): Dagbladet reports that voters aged 18 to 29 delivered a lopsided result for Democrats in the midterm election. According to the report, 71 percent of voters in that age group cast ballots for Democrats, while only 25 percent voted for Republicans.

The figures make young voters the Democrats’ largest voter group, the report says. Young voters have traditionally favored Democrats, but in recent years many have been drawn to Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, in line with parts of European youth that have moved toward the right or toward populist parties on both sides of the spectrum.

In the previous presidential election, Kamala Harris drew only slightly more young voters than Donald Trump, by a margin of four percentage points. Young men, including white, Hispanic and Black men, supported Trump to the surprise of many, the article notes.

Dagbladet writes that media outlets sought explanations for this, and that cryptocurrency and admiration for Elon Musk could not be the only explanation.
