Fady Dagher internal complaints Montreal police, Digi Mart USA News (Montreal, Quebec): Quebec’s Minister of Public Security, Guy Lapointe fils, addressed on Friday the scandals that have affected the Montreal police for several months. He was in Montreal to meet Johanne Beausoleil, director general of the Sûreté du Québec, and to define his ministry’s priorities, but allegations of misconduct by some officers of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) dominated the press conference.

It was reported Friday, according to information published by TVA Nouvelles, that anonymous police officers have filed complaints with the Commissioner of Police Ethics against SPVM director Fady Dagher. The officers allege in their complaint that Dagher lacked impartiality in handling the matter of Police Station 39, which led to the dismissal of seven officers accused of committing racist acts on duty.

Minister Lapointe was guarded in his comments, saying he prefers to wait for the results of investigations before taking a position. “If the facts are proven, it is extremely troubling and unacceptable.

This is not the kind of behavior that can be accepted in any context from police officers, who must have the public’s trust,” said Lapointe, himself a former police officer.

Asked whether he still has confidence in Fady Dagher to lead the Montreal police force, the minister was also vague. “What is important is not my confidence.

What is important is the confidence of the public. The mayor of Montreal, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, has confidence in him,” he responded.

Maintaining that public confidence will be one of the priorities of his office, Lapointe added. “The Premier gave me a very clear mandate: to work on the public’s sense of security.” The former police officer also intends to address crime in the regions and the recruitment of young people by criminal organizations.
