IF Elfsborg goalkeeper Theo Sander ahead of Hammarby match, Digi Mart USA News (Sweden): IF Elfsborg travels to Hammarby IF on Friday in the 28th round of the Allsvenskan, the top tier of Swedish football. Goalkeeper Theo Sander has made two consecutive Allsvenskan starts for the club and says he is happy with his recent involvement.
“It has been great. I am glad to be on the pitch and help the team,” Sander said.
“There has been a lot of work on the training ground so far, but the timing was right now and I am glad to have come in and played.”
Elfsborg ended a run of three draws in a row with a 2–1 home win over Örgryte IS at Borås Arena. Leo Östman scored a late winner that gave the team three important points.
“I think we played a good match. We had the ball a lot and had control through the whole game.
Then they scored, but we kept our calm and continued with our plan. It worked out, we did not stress and got the winning goal late,” Sander said.
The match was Sander’s first Allsvenskan home game for the club. “It was a fantastic day.
I had part of my family there and had been waiting for that day, to come in, make my home debut and play in front of the supporters in Borås. It became even better because we won,” he said.
Örgryte IS had been in a relegation place, second from bottom, before their previous meeting with Elfsborg. Friday’s opponent is currently in second place.
Sander discussed the upcoming match against Hammarby.
“They have many offensive qualities and many good players. But they are also in good momentum as a team, and that means a lot in football.
So many things are going well for them right now, but they are also going well for us. We will follow our match plan that the coaching staff has set up, and with it we believe we can stop them.
Then of course it helps if I can save a ball or two as well.”
The Hammarby match is the last before an upcoming international break, with the league’s final two rounds to be played later in November. Hammarby sits three points behind league leader IK Sirius ahead of the match at 3Arena.
Elfsborg is also three points behind fourth-placed BK Häcken, which occupies what could be a European qualification place, a position the team wants to reach.
“We will trust our match plan and our own qualities. Beyond that, we must keep our calm, be composed and just keep going.
As I said, trust our plan,” Sander concluded.
