Marne Prefect Romain Royet cited the events of October 17, 24 and 31, 2026, which he said were marked in Reims by serious public order disturbances, gathering respectively 3,500, 3,000 and 1,000 people. He stated that these gatherings led to violence of increasing intensity.
During the three previous weekends, on Saturdays October 17, 24 and 31, processions marched through Reims despite the prefecture’s ban on demonstrations.
The restricted perimeter includes Place de la République, next to the Boulingrin, Boulevard Lundy, Place Aristide Briand, the roundabout of the Droits de l’Homme, and Boulevard Paul Doumer.

The prefectures of the Marne and the Ardennes also imposed bans on Saturday, October 24, 2026, when undeclared gatherings were prohibited within city-center perimeters in Reims and Charleville-Mézières.
Despite the prefectural bans, students, unions and Gilets jaunes called for a new day of mobilization on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in the Marne and the Ardennes. The third round of demonstrations was directed against the high cost of living and for greater resources for education.
Because of demonstrations in front of several high schools, public transport in Reims was interrupted. Tram and bus traffic remained halted on Friday, October 2, throughout the morning, and the interruption was extended into the afternoon.
