Singapore Airlines new seats $2 billion cabin upgrade, Digi Mart USA News (Singapore): Travellers flying with Singapore Airlines (SIA) will soon have a new reason to be excited about their journey: brand new seats.
Next-generation first- and business-class seats will be introduced on SIA’s Airbus A350-900 fleet starting in the second half of 2027. That is a slight delay from the airline’s earlier target of the first quarter of 2027.
The new economy and premium economy seats will be fitted only on the new Boeing 777-9 aircraft.
The first A350-900 long-haul aircraft with the upgraded seats was initially expected to carry passengers in the second quarter of 2026, followed by the A350-900 ultra-long-range version in 2027. SIA said industrywide supply constraints and a delay in certification for the new seats pushed back the upgrades.
The seat upgrades for the complete A350 fleet are part of a $2 billion revamp across all cabin classes and are slated to be completed by 2030. The program is the airline’s biggest investment in cabin products to date, covering 72 aircraft in total.
SIA previously overhauled the business-class seats on its Airbus A380s in 2017 and rolled out a redesign of the Suites line, the first-class-cabin equivalent on the A380.
The new seats are part of a wider revamp that includes updated dining menus and enhanced in-flight entertainment systems.
Members of the public who want to preview the new seats and cabin products can look forward to a showcase at Jewel Changi Airport in the coming weeks, and another display in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 3 in early 2027.
