Farid Vaziri arrested in connection with Värmdö bag murder, Digi Mart USA News: Swedish police have arrested Farid Vaziri, a suspect in the murder of Ako Abbas, according to Expressen, which first reported the arrest. Vaziri reportedly turned himself in and had been in Mexico before surrendering.
Ako Abbas, 37, was murdered in March 2024. His body was later found in a bag on Värmdö, outside Stockholm.
By then, several of the perpetrators had already fled abroad.
One of the suspects was Farid Vaziri, then 23. According to Aftonbladet, police suspected he first fled to Mexico and then to the United States.
He was internationally wanted in May 2024, and police had been searching for him since then.
Vaziri was taken into custody on Wednesday on suspicion of murder and aggravated desecration of a grave, according to documents from Nacka District Court. Prosecutor Cecilia Tepper said in an email that he had been held in absentia since March 2024 and internationally wanted.
It remains unclear how the arrest took place. According to Expressen, Vaziri turned himself in while in Mexico.
In February 2025, a 25-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were sentenced to prison for aggravated desecration of a grave. Both were acquitted of murder and blamed Vaziri.
The woman’s older brother was convicted of aggravated obstruction of justice and attempted aggravated fraud for helping the pair flee after the killing.
During the investigation, it emerged that the woman and Ako Abbas had some form of relationship. The prosecutor argued that the motive was to restore the family’s honor after learning of the relationship.
The woman disputed this at trial, saying she had only pretended to be in love with Abbas because she was afraid of him.
