Puebla government backs federal probe into alleged electoral contracting network, Digi Mart USA News (Puebla, Mexico): The government of Puebla has expressed support for President Claudia Sheinbaum regarding investigations into an alleged corruption network in electoral contracting, which reportedly involves at least six companies tied to operations worth approximately 2,740.3 million pesos. According to the source, the investigation emerged from a review of open sources, and the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) has moved to freeze some accounts following complaints filed by the Superior Audit Office of the Federation (ASF).
José Luis García Parra, general coordinator of the Puebla cabinet, said the companies in question reportedly took part in awards of electoral materials and services over the past 27 years, with antecedents dating to 1999 in the State of Mexico. Speaking on behalf of Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier, he voiced support for the investigations and questioned opposition parties over their accusations, arguing that the operations under review have roots in earlier administrations.
García Parra presented a timeline of the group’s operations, compiled from public information reviewed by the Secretariat of Anticorruption and Good Government, led by Raquel Buenrostro Sánchez. Among the background he cited was a 63.7 million peso contract in 2005 that led to accusations and the resignations of electoral councilors.
He also described awards made in other states in subsequent years and the alleged involvement of front and invoicing companies.
The official also referred to the career of Guadalupe Taddei, who was appointed electoral councilor in Sonora in 2014 by the General Council of the then National Electoral Institute, presided over by Lorenzo Córdova. He noted that Taddei reached the presidency of the national body in 2023 through a random selection procedure provided for in the law.
The state government reported that Puebla identified contracts worth 49.4 million pesos between 2014 and 2023, plus 129.7 million pesos corresponding to 2024 and 2025, all of which must be reviewed by the competent authorities. García Parra said the state administration will promote full publication of contracts from the Electoral Institute of the State of Puebla (IEE) and support the investigations, while respecting the autonomy of electoral authorities.
As part of state actions against administrative irregularities, the Armenta government reported the removal of 315 people from public service. The investigations into electoral contracting are taking place ahead of the elections scheduled for June 6, 2027.
