Mexico corn yields and the 2026 Industrialized Corn Forum, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): Mexico’s corn yield is 3.8 tonnes per hectare (t/ha), according to figures from the National Chamber of Industrialized Corn (CANAMI). That is 38% below the global average of 6.1 t/ha and 66% below the United States, where yields reach 11.5 t/ha.
CANAMI says Mexico produces 24.1 million tonnes of corn and imports 24.2 million tonnes, in a market where annual consumption is estimated at 48.9 million tonnes. The group said these figures “highlight the importance of strengthening national productive capacity and the competitiveness conditions of a strategic chain for food and the Mexican economy.”
Ahead of the National Industrialized Corn Forum 2026, to be held November 9 in Mexico City, CANAMI said the event will address agricultural productivity, innovation, technology adoption, more resilient seed development and better farming practices. The forum will bring together federal authorities, business leaders and specialists.
According to the group, about 50% of national consumption goes to the livestock sector, 30% to human food and 9% to industrial uses, with other uses making up the remainder. Roughly 7 million tonnes are used to make tortillas, equivalent to 14% of total corn consumption in Mexico.
CANAMI also said its member industry includes 36 affiliated companies operating 79 industrial plants, generating more than 40,000 direct jobs and consuming about 9 million tonnes of white and yellow corn a year, roughly one-fifth of national consumption. The forum will cover five main themes: national and international market outlooks, agricultural competitiveness in the face of climate change, regulatory perspectives, circular economy and ecological balance, and innovation and seed resilience.
